There are many books on grief. Some are good, some are ok and some resonate with me and I am consumed with every word. I just finished reading “Creative Grieving: A Hip Chick’s Path from Loss to Hope. ” I recommend that you have a box of tissue ready when you start reading this book.
The author, Elizabeth Berrien recounts the terrible loss of her stillborn son and then the devastating loss of her husband…all within 20 months. Elizabeth describes the early days of grieving and is very honest and raw….the days of staying in bed, unable to muster the energy to get up……wearing the same clothes for days on end…and not caring what she looks like. She describes moving on for the sake of her young child and last but certainly not least, the love, strength and support that her friends and family provided her and her daughter.
Elizabeth also writes about the next step in her journey. She talks about meeting her new husband and building a new life. I really enjoyed hearing how she followed her support centre idea to fruition. It is a dream that I have as well.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that has suffered a loss. Reading the book made me realize many things as I shared many of the same grieving moments as the author. Her honest writing lead to me having many “aha” moments. I also found myself saying….”yes, me too!” many times throughout the book.
A great book to read yourself or to give to someone that has suffered a loss.
