I have a new addiction…..collecting coloring books, pencil crayons and crayons. It all started a couple months ago when I saw adult colouring books at my local Chapters. I bought one, went home and starting colouring. I felt like a kid again, my stress disappeared and I had a lot of fun. Now, every time I go into a book store, I head right to the colouring books.
People wonder why adult colouring books are so popular. I asked some friends and compiled this list of 9 reasons adults enjoy colouring.
1. It is calming. I find it really relaxing to just zen out and focus on something detailed and pretty. (Lara)
2. Our craft group at work is more than half colourers. Any one can do it and it’s relaxing. (Jodi)
3. It’s something to focus on. It’s as simple as you want to make it. It’s colourful. (Jackie)
4. It’s calming … And you get to create something that is unique . I love colours and combining them so it’s a fun pastime .. And I get to do it with my kids they love it. (Dee)
5. I LOVE coloring. I got my mom and aunt into it too. It’s so relaxing. (Jody)
6. While I’m concentrating on colouring in one space without going out of the lines, I’m not thinking about any of the stressful things in my life. It’s like a time out for my mind. (Elaine)
7. I like it because it’s repetitive. (Jenn)
8. It’s calming and passes time and is a mix between doodling and coloring! (Laurel)
9. Helps me shut everything else out and brings me peace. (Robin)

I have yet to purchase an adult colouring book, but I must confess that when I was buying back to school supplies for Thing1 and Thing 2, I bought myself a happy-making set of Sanford Prismacolour Scholar colouring pencils. 🙂
One of these days I’ll take the leap over to a colouring book just for me.
Maybe …

I love colouring. I started out thinking I would be annoyed with it. Then I started colouring all day long. Not annoyed. In fact. I have all my pages put in a binder in page protectors so they’re easier to get to. Lol.

I have always loved colouring ever since I was little. I’d lay on my belly on the floor colouring hours. When I recently saw the adult colouring books instores/online I knew I needed to reconnect with one of my favourite hobbies. It’s calming, allows for alone time and just overall a great way to express creativity. – Thanks for the chance 🙂
