Everyone has to deal with work stress at some point during the day, especially sitting at a desk for hours on end. Here are 6 fast and easy ways to de-stress at your desk.
- Breathe easy. Sit back, relax, and just breathe. Use the 4-7-8 breathing technique by blowing a breath out for a count of 4, inhaling for a count of 7, and then exhaling for a count of 8. Doing this several times a day can release any accumulated stress and help refocus you for the rest of the day.
- To do list. Make a list of your most important things to get accomplished that day and cross them off as you go. Putting things down on paper right in front of you can help put your tasks in order and keep your mind on one thing at a time.
- Stay organized. Feel more in control of your work surroundings by keeping an organized desk. When your desk is cluttered, your mind is cluttered. Create less stress by keeping files and paperwork in order and keep chaos at bay.
- Mood music. If you can swing it in your office environment, put on some relaxing music on a low volume or use earphones. Listening to relaxing music at your desk can take the edge off and get your mind on something soothing.
- Humor has it. A good old belly laugh can make a world of difference in your crazy day. Watch a funny You Tube video, call a funny friend, or find a co-worker who makes you smile.
- Walk it off. You’ll have to leave your desk for a few minutes, but short mini breaks throughout the day for a walk around the office or up and down the stairs can get your blood pumping and clear your mind.
Try these methods when you start feeling the stress building and you can cut it off before the stress of the day gets away from you.
What do you like to do when you are feeling stressed?

Awesome tips! I love the idea of going for a walk and breathing. I work in customer service and most days are good but other time you get a call from some really messed up people that have way too much time on their hands. When I’m done dealing with them I have to be prepared to deal with someone else and not have any negative attitude. Sooo when I have a really crappy call I take a few minutes to “breathe”.

When I feel stressed I get up and talk to a coworker. We are a tight knit team and talking or joking to each other keeps us all in check. We also seem to pick up on whether a team member is stressed or upset pretty easily, and sometimes we all go for a coffee just to help them out.
