Road trips…the open road and adventure on the mind. There is something exhilarating about going away. Sometimes it is not possible to go away for a few days and a day trip can do the trick. A fun car always makes the adventure better so when Ford offered me an all-new Fusion Sport to go on an adventure, I immediately said yes! I knew the combination of good friends, good food, and a fun, safe and comfortable car would make for a perfect road trip.
Making memories with friends is a great way to spend a fun day so I invited my friends Cathy (Cathy Thinking Out Loud) and Julie (Try Small Things) to come along on my road trip. We decided a picnic in Gatineau Park would be a great way to spend the day. The forecast was calling for clouds and a chance of rain but we were not going to let rain dampen our adventure. Instead, we made sure to pack items in case of rain. We knew the Ford Fusion had a big trunk so we were not worried about trunk space!
The Ford Fusion is a mid-sized sedan that comfortably seats 5 people. Our road trip was an adventure in comfort as the Ford Fusion is great for short trips or longer journeys. It is perfect for a couple or a family. I would not hesitate to take a Ford Fusion on an 8 hour drive to New City. Maybe that should be my next road trip 🙂
Despite living in Ottawa for over 20 years, I have never been to Gatineau Park. I normally do not like driving somewhere I have never been, but that was not an issue on this trip! Thankfully, the Ford Fusion has a fantastic voice activated navigation system that did not disappoint. All I needed to do was tell the system where I wanted to go and within seconds, my course was laid out in front of me. No need to stress over going to an unfamiliar location.
Every road trip needs a kickass playlist and we had one for this trip! Thanks to the sound system, we listened to some great tunes on the way to Gatineau Park. Easy to use and amazing sound!
“It’s Raining Men” was the perfect song for a rainy day.
Back up cameras are great and a must have in any car. The Ford Fusion has a large display which appears in the navigation panel. The clean view and the guidance lines helped guide me while backing up in a couple very busy and tight parking lots at Gatineau Park. “Put the gear selector in Reverse and the rear view camera automatically transmits the image of what’s behind your vehicle to your screen when you’re slowly backing up. The rear view camera is standard on all models.” (Ford website)
Important Features of the Ford Fusion
Inflatable Rear Safety Belts– the first vehicle in its class to offer this feature. These available rear outboard safety belts are designed to hold the passenger in the appropriate seating position and can help distribute crash-force energy across more of the torso area than traditional belts, which can help reduce the risk of injury, while providing support to the head and neck. (Ford website)
Blind Spot Indication Light-Radar in the rear quarter panels can detect whether a vehicle is in your blind spot and alerts you with an indicator light in the appropriate sideview mirror. (Ford website)
Adaptive Cruise Control-When Fusion is in cruise mode, a radar sensor detects slowing traffic ahead and can automatically brake and accelerate to keep you moving with the pace of traffic. With the addition of stop-and-go, the feature can bring your vehicle to a complete stop in stopped traffic and restart it as traffic begins to move. (Ford website)
Fusion offers a wide range of available technologies to help keep you aware of your surroundings and ever-changing traffic conditions. One feature is the available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection to alert you of pedestrians or vehicles entering your path. Fusion also offers additional available driver-assist technologies that can help detect vehicles in your blind spots, adjust your speed while in cruise control, help you stay in your lane, find a parking space and more. Remember I mentioned that a picnic was on our agenda? Take a look at the delicious goodness we brought with us! Butter chicken, fresh naan and other tasty dishes. Add a checkered picnic blanket, fun paper plates and colourful pinwheels and we had an instant picnic.
Look at the fun dessert Julie made us! So fitting for our #FordSummer road trip.
After feasting on pure yumminess, the three of us drove to a hiking tail and went for a stress free and relaxing walk in the woods. We needed to walk off our delicious lunch.
After hours of walking, we decided it was time to go back home. We packed up our Ford Fusion and headed back home. I put my address into the navigation system, turned on the kickass tunes and we chatted and laughed all the way home. What a great day with good food, good friends and a fabulous car.
