“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”
― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose
I want to start out by saying THANK YOU. I am grateful that you are reading what I have crafted for you to read. I am grateful I am able to do what I love to do…write! You see I am a firm believer in the importance of gratitude. It is all about the attitude of gratitude.
“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
It is something that is top of mind for me every single day but I will admit that was not always true. It has been a journey to get to this point. The path to the importance of gratitude started about five years ago.
I work in an industry that can be difficult on your mind, body and soul. I am a news editor and producer and have spent the past 15 years or so working in major market newsrooms. We deal with difficult stories of loss, death, violence and heartache on a daily basis. It can be hard to digest and consume. Everyone I know who works in news has developed a hard shell to protect themselves from the hardships of news. Don’t get me wrong, there are stories of love, life and happiness but, in truth, news is often more about the ugliness rather than the prettiness of the world. I started my journey to a path of gratitude after picking up a book called the Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz.
It was a book that really got me thinking about how I was living my life. There was a lot of toxic things and even people in my life. I had a nasty habit of listening to a very toxic and mean voice inside my head. I started the process of seeing the good in my life. I started to silence that nasty inner voice and instead recognized I was enough and that I had a lot to give to the world. It was all about small changes. I began to read more about the laws of attraction and the importance of putting out good stuff to the Universe because you get back what you put out. A big part of that is about being grateful. It is so important to see what is good in your life so that you can open the door to better things to come.
Reading the Four Agreements lead me to other great books about the path to a happier, more content way of life. Firstly, I learned about The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes. It was more about the theories of attracting good things into your life. I also discovered author and motivational speaker Mike Dooley and his book Choose Them Wisely. Dooley says that our thoughts are powerful and so we should choose them wisely. The book is full of inspirational messages, quotes and what I like to consider mantras. I hope you get a chance to read those books. Or maybe you have already read them and want to share some other great inspirational titles.
Living a life full of gratitude puts you in a creative mind space. I believe it allows you to see your blessings and opens the door to the opportunity of bigger, better, more blessings.
I look forward to sharing with you what I am grateful for and learning how you live a life full of gratitude.
